Father Martin Graham

Good morning!

I had a rather strange experience a while back when someone asked me my age and for the first time I honestly couldn鈥檛 remember! I thought am I 38 or 39 and there was just a hint of relief when I worked it out and discovered I am only 38! On TV and every other means of advertising we are bombarded with adverts telling us in many ways how their product will help us deny the aging process and astound our friends at how young we look; incidentally if you think about those adverts it seems to me that all the active people are in their 20s and adverts for the 60+ audience are for denture fixative and funeral plans!

Does it bother me that I am now 38? I can honestly say not in the least; I can鈥檛 seem to get a grip on where all the years have gone but I don鈥檛 feel any different than when I was 28 or 18. I take a lot of comfort from Psalm 139 where it says how our days are written before one came to be. For me the important thing to remember is that God has given us our span of days...what we do with them is what counts!

God of endless ages, each day is a step we take towards eternity; may we continue thus from day to day until we take the last step, which will bring us into your loving presence. Amen.
