S霉il air fichead bliadhna de dh鈥櫡∶舶璨

Tha 贰貌谤辫补 air aithris air iomadh sgeulachd chudromach bho air feadh mh貌r-th矛r na h-贰貌谤辫补 eadar d霉nadh ionad-niuclasach Chernobyl san Ucr脿in agus sgrios Beslan ann a Os脿idia a鈥 Tuath.

聽Anns a鈥 phr貌gram bidh agallamhan le cuid de na luchd-naidheachd a bha ag aithris thairis air na fichead bliadhna sin bho chuid de na d霉thchannan is sg矛rean as doire agus as frionasaiche san Roinn 贰貌谤辫补.

Bha Anna NicLe貌id na neach-naidheachd air 贰貌谤辫补, agus gu math cleachdte ri bhith ann an suidheachaidhean gu math cunnartach thairis air iomadh turas gu na d霉thchannan Balcanach nuair a bha An t-Seann I霉goslabh a鈥 bristeadh suas. Thuirt Anna: 鈥淭uras a bha sinn ann bha cogadh a鈥 dol eadar Cosobhaich Alb脿inia agus Serbia. Bha sinn fortanach gu robh ceanglaichean aig an eadar-theangaiche le cuideigin san KLA Alb脿inianach agus an ath latha thug i sinn gu 脿ite far an robh na ceudan de shaighdearan reubaltach air cruinneachadh mar thaic dhan KhLA 鈥 b鈥 e sinne an aon sgioba naidheachd a bh鈥 ann, agus dhomh fh矛n, bha e follaiseach nach robh s矛th air f脿ire agus gum biodh cogadh ann luaithe na maille.鈥

Airson an neach-naidheachd M矛cheal Bochanan, 鈥檚 e turas gu math duilich a bh鈥 ann dha gu l脿rach Chernobyl, is e d矛reach 25 bliadhna a dh鈥檃ois ann an 1996, an turas nach d矛ochuimhnich e gu br脿th. Thuirt M矛cheal: 鈥淭ha cuimhne agam air c脿raid p貌sta a thill air ais a dh鈥檉huireach san sg矛re truaillte agus cuideachd a鈥 chlann ann an Bealaruis. Ged a tha mi air coinneachadh ri iomadh neach thairis air nam bliadhnaichean nam neach-naidheachd, bidh mi fhathast a鈥 smaointinn air na daoine a choinnich mi ann an Chernobyl agus a鈥 beachdachadh air d猫 thachair dhaibh.鈥

Chaidh Suzie Algie, a bha ag obair air a鈥 phr貌gram airson d脿 bliadhna, dhan Tuirc ann an 1999 nuair a bhuail crith-thalmhainn an d霉thaich. Thuirt Suzie: 鈥淚s e seo sgeulachd a thug buaidh mh貌r orm 鈥 bha e cho duilich faicinn an sgrios a rinn an crith-thalmhainn. Bha aon teaghlach gu h-脿raid air a bheil cuimhne agam. Bha iad a鈥 fuireach ann an teanta agus cha robh fi霉s dealan no uisge aca 鈥 bha cho beag aca ach fhathast bha iad cho aoigheil agus a鈥 tairgsinn cupa t矛 dhuinne.鈥

A retrospective look at twenty years of 贰貌谤辫补

With its focus on European issues, 贰貌谤辫补 has reported on some of the most hard-hitting stories from across the continent from the disaster at Chernobyl in the Ukraine to the massacre at Beslan in North Ossetia.

Former 贰貌谤辫补 Reporter Anna MacLeod was one of those who experienced such danger on trips to the Balkans as the bloody break-up of Yugoslavia gathered momentum. Anna said: 鈥淲hen we arrived there was fighting happening between the Albanian and Serbian Kosovans.

鈥淲e were fortunate to have a translator who had a contact within the rebel Albanian KLA and the next day she took us to where there were hundreds of new KLA conscripts gathered 鈥 we were the only news team there to witness this, and for me it was obvious that peace was not on the agenda and that the outbreak of war was imminent.鈥

For Michael Buchanan, at the tender age of 25 he was given the daunting task of reporting from the Chernobyl disaster zone in 1996 - and it is an assignment that is indelibly marked in his memory. Michael explained: 鈥淚 remember the couple we met who had returned to the affected area to live and also the children in Belarus. Considering all the people I have met through my years of reporting, I still often think of those from Chernobyl and wonder where they are now.鈥

Suzie Algie, who reported on 贰貌谤辫补 for two years, brought viewers the plight of those caught in the Turkish earthquake of 1999. Suzie commented: 鈥淭his is the story that had the greatest impact on me 鈥 it was so sad to see the devastation the earthquake had caused. I remember one particular family who had lost their home and were living in a tent with no electricity or running water 鈥 they had so little but were still so hospitable and offering us tea.鈥
