Paul Gambaccini presents tracks from this week's US charts and hits from the last six decades.

In the feature 'Headline News [Number one albums on noteworthy days]' we hear 'Over My Head' from the self-titled album by Fleetwood Mac. It was number one on 3rd September 1976, the date on which Viking 2 landed on Mars and took the first close-up colour photos of the planet's surface. We also hear 'Vertigo' by U2 from the album 'How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb'. It was number one on 8th December 2004 - the date on which guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott was shot dead during a Damageplan gig in Ohio. In the regular feature 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face', tracks are played from albums by Bobby Goldsboro and John Fogerty.

In 'A Matter Of Life And Death' Paul celebrates the birthday of Tracy Chapman by playing her song 'Baby Can I Hold You'. We also hear 'Good Vibrations' by The Beach Boys in tribute to the recently deceased Paul Tanner - the inventor of the Electro-Theremin he played on the record. 'It's Not The Same Old Song' highlights 'Emotions' by Brenda Lee and a different song with the same title by Mariah Carey. Paul continues his countdown of the Top 100 list of songwriters based on success in the American chart from 1955 - 2005. We hear songs written by Stevie Wonder (22) and James Brown (21).

Our R&B Number Ones are from 1974 - 'Lookin' For A Love' by Bobby Womack - and this week - 'Adorn' by Miguel. We hear Country number ones from 1962 and now by Patsy Cline and Blake Shelton. This week's featured past and present Rock number ones are by Don Henley and Imagine Dragons. 'What About Now' by Bon Jovi is the week's number one album. 'Thrift Shop' by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis is the best-selling song of the week.
