A spiritual comment and prayer to begin the day with the Rt Revd Richard Chartres, Bishop of London.

Good morning.
Exactly 500 years ago on this day the explorer Ponce de Leon discovered land which he named Florida after the Easter festival of flowers, the Pascua Florida which was being celebrated in his native Spain.
He was in fact searching for the mythic island of Bimini said to be the location of the fountain of perpetual youth. He did not find the fantasy which he was pursuing but a real place of great beauty.
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ also led on to remarkable discoveries.
One of the final resurrection appearances was to the friends of Jesus Christ as they were fishing on a lake. It had been a disappointing night but in the morning there was Jesus standing on the shore inviting them all to breakfast, to 鈥淐ome and Dine鈥.
All the accounts of his resurrection appearances stress that Christ could be handled, that he communicates and shares food with his friends. Here is no disembodied spirit offering moonshine for consolation to the hungry but the risen Christ who taught that we will be nourished and enlightened by sharing our lives with one another.
Christ is still present to be touched and we are still able to share or food with him because we can see and love him in one another and especially with those in our world who are hungry. After the gift of the Holy Spirit following his return to the mysterious Godhead, the whole world is full of his presence.
Father open our spiritual eyes to see the presence of your beloved Son in one another; help us to be full of invitation so that we can play our part in bringing the whole world to feast at your table through Jesus Christ. Amen.
