Bill Whiteford and genealogist Professor Bruce Durie join listener Ethel Gilroy at Craig House Hospital in Edinburgh to learn about the history of mental asylums in Scotland.

Over the last 150 years, the way mentally ill people are treated has changed dramatically. These days, the focus is on care in the community. Bill Whiteford and genealogist, Professor Bruce Durie visit Craig House Hospital in Edinburgh where one listener's ancestor, Ethel Gilroy, spent almost her entire adult life.
