Episode 3 of 26

Jim McColl takes the temperature of the vegetable plot to see what, if anything, he can sow and Carole Baxter shows how to care for houseplants after months of central heating.

Jim McColl, in his best bedside manner, takes the temperature of the soil in the veg plot, assessing what he can sow - if anything. If he can, it will be tatties and carrots, if not, he will put the blanket back on for another week.

After months of central heating, houseplants need some spring care and Carole Baxter sets about some sad looking specimens as well as showing how to propagate streptocarpus or cape primrose.

Jim, Carole and George also take a bulbilicious walk around the garden to discover as many varieties in flower as possible. Jayne McCracken in Newton Mearns, Glasgow, has recently moved into a home with a mature garden and would like to know how to restore the garden to its former glory. George works his socks off for the day with Jayne to create an alpine scree, plant a woodland area and establish a shrub border.

George is also in Loanhead with orchid fanatic, Henry Marsh, who wants to let us all know that there is way more to orchids than the flowery phalaenopsis that everyone buys from the supermarket.
