Sir Michael Parkinson celebrates the 100th anniversary of the great lyricist Sammy Cahn - playing tracks by Doris Day, Nat King Cole and some of the 60 recorded by Frank Sinatra.

There are few lyricists as successful or as prolific as Sammy Cahn. He wrote hundreds of songs which have gone on to become standards. Among them, 'It's Magic'; 'Come Fly With Me'; 'Three Coins in the Fountain'; 'It's Nice To Go Travellin' and 'Time After Time'. Doris Day, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra (who recorded sixty of his songs) all recognised Cahn's supreme talent. His two main writing partners were Jimmy Van Heusen and Jule Styne and on tonight's programme Sir Michael celebrates Cahn's 100th anniversary by playing many of their hit records and assessing Cahn's stellar song writing career.
