With Peter Allen and Anna Foster. A national plan to concentrate children's heart surgery in fewer specialist centres for safety reasons has been put on hold.
Peter Allen and Anna Foster with the day's news and sport. The health secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has suspended plans to close three children's heart surgery units in England. The proposal was to centralise the specialist care at fewer, bigger centres, but Mr Hunt told MPs that an independent report concluded the idea was based on a "flawed analysis" of "incomplete proposals", so much so that the plan couldn't go ahead in its current form. We spoke to parents and health officials affected by this decision.
The latest unemployment figures are down by 5,000 and the Government is using this to push its 'good record' on jobs. But another report out today, shows wages have fallen more in real terms than ever before, because they're not going up in line with the cost of living. 5 live Money's Dominic Laurie speaks to a business in Sheffield which has had to cut and freeze wages to keep people in jobs. Anna Foster takes a walk around an unemployment centre in Salford to find out how they're trying to help.
