Matt the lumberjack
North Wales may be known for its rugged coastline and mountainous peaks but this week Matt Baker is exploring the history of the region’s forests. He gets his adrenalin pumping when he races up an 80ft timber pole just like the lumberjacks of North America, using a nifty pair of metal shoe spikes to help him. Plus he meets the men creating art using their chainsaws. In his final challenge of the day, it’s time to put traditional skills to the test in a log sawing competition. But will a helping hand from Ellie be enough to guide him to victory?

Ash Dieback returns
As life returns to the British countryside, so too does a deadly fungus. Ash dieback arrived in the UK last year, but lay dormant over the winter. Now it is returning to the landscape with predictions that it could all but wipe out one of our favourite trees. Tom Heap is in Norfolk just at the moment when plant pathologists discover the first piece of hard evidence that the fungus is replicating itself in the UK. With the worst fears confirmed, Tom asks if there is anything that can be done to stop its spread. He also discovers a scientific breakthrough which could ensure that Ash trees don't disappear from the British countryside.

Ellie and the honeycomb worms
Down on the beach Ellie Harrison meets the strange little creatures making their home on the shoreline. The honeycomb worm is a master architect, building an empire of tiny tubes out of sand and shell. The reefs they create help increase biodiversity. Scientists are trying to work out how much of the coastline they cover and how to help the areas where they are under threat. With the use of some simple equipment – a giant balloon and a camera – Ellie helps map their territory.

Eggs, chicks and Crackers on Adam’s Farm
A large part of Adam Henson’s income comes from his animals and to produce good stock they often need a helping hand. Adam collects the eggs from some of his Welsummer chickens and incubates them in a machine. He is able to check that the chicks are developing in the egg using a process called candling. This involves shining a light into the egg which reveals if it is fertile and whether the chicks are growing. Yet again Adam’s been having problems with Crackers - his belted Galloway stock bull. Last year he pulled fences down and started mixing with other breeds. Now, just when Adam thought he had Crackers under control, there’s an unexpected arrival!
