The independent body that sets MPs' pay is expected to recommend they get a rise of up to fifteen per cent.
David Cameron says increasing the cost of politics would be "unthinkable", but he's been advised that if the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority supports the rise there's not much he could do to stop it.
Our MPs are some of the lowest paid in Europe. On average GPs earn much more, and so do head teachers. So is it about time that their pay was brought into line with other jobs? Would we end up with a better standard of people running the country?
