Two hours of music and conversation with a faith and ethical perspective. Richard is joined by Marjorie Wallace of mental health charity SANE.
Marjorie Wallace is a journalist, campaigner, founder of mental health charity SANE and, by her own admission, an 'unrepentant romantic'. We hear about her African childhood, her uncompromising approach to journalism - she put her own life on the line to investigate IRA training camps and backstreet abortion clinics - and about what made her devote the last thirty years to reduce the stigma of mental health.
The Westeminster government recently gave its backing to a controversial 3-person IVF technique that raises the possibility of babies being born with genes from three people. And advances in genetic screening have again brought up the issue of 'designer babies'. We debate the ethics and the human yearnings behind the headlines.
Recent years have seen the circulation figures of Scottish newspapers plummeting. And with public trust in journalism at an all-time low, the days of serious journalism might be numbered. We look back at the golden age of journalism and take the pulse of Scottish journalism today. How important are newspapers for all of us as informed citizens and can online journalism ever replace the printed word?
We visit Leuchie House in North Berwick, a respite home that offers care for people with life limiting conditions, and speak to the staff, the guests and their relatives about what Leuchie means to them.
And can religion ever be funny? As a television programme turns vicars into stand up comics we speak to the Catholic priest who was Pope John Paul II's warm up man in Scotland to reflect on the place of humour in religion.
