Downing Street has defended the quality of the 111 phone service in England after NHS Direct announced it was pulling out of all nine of the contracts it still runs.
The Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham says the government needs to "sort out" the NHS 111 after one of the main providers of the service says it wants to pull out of its contracts.
