Ernie Els won last year's Open, held at Lytham, after leader Adam Scott's final-round collapse.

Scott has since gone on to win this year's Masters and is expected to challenge here, while there will be huge interest in Justin Rose, who became the first Englishman to win the US Open in 40 years with victory at the Merion course just a month ago.
