Bonus Pay Gap
Statistics published today by the Chartered Management Institute show that male managers earned average bonuses twice as big as those of their female counterparts over the last twelve months. If women are the majority of the workforce at entry level, why do they continue to lose out on not only on top positions but on top pay? Jenni discusses the issues with Dr Petra Wilton, Director of Policy for the CMI and Roger Barker, Director of Corporate Governance at the Institute of Directors.
Samantha Shannon: The Bone Season
has just written her first novel, The Bone Season. Two years ago she was a shy 19 year old intern, today she has a six figure publishing deal for her fantasy novel sequence. Set in a dark, dystopian future, The Bone Season follows 19 year old Paige, who works in the criminal underworld of Scion London. The work she does is unusual: scouting for information by breaking into other people’s minds. She is a dreamwalker, a rare kind of clairvoyant, and in her world, the clairvoyants commit treason simply by being alive.
The Bone Season is published worldwide by Bloomsbury on 20 August 2013.

HPV Vaccine for Boys
The Human Papillomavirus or HPV is known to be the major cause of Cervical Cancer.Ìý Girls in the UK are routinely vaccinated for it, but it is also the cause of other cancers that affect men as well as women like throat and anal cancer.Ìý There is often great stigma surrounding these types of cancers.Ìý So, should boys be vaccinated against HPV too as they are in Australia.Ìý Jenni speaks to Jill De Nardo whose anal cancer was caused by the HPV virus and to Dr Mayura Nathan, Consultant Physician and an expert in anal cancer prevention at the Homerton Hospital, London.
Mania Akbari
The Iranian film maker and actress Mania Akbari is no stranger to controversy.ÌýShe first came to prominence in 2002 in an award winning film called TEN, made by the celebrated Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami.ÌýHer films deal with subjects which are considered taboo in Iran, such as divorce, infidelity, abortion and lesbianism. And she’s often put her own life on the screen – when she suffered from breast cancer in 2007, she made a film about it. She’s fallen foul of the Iranian authorities and last year she fled to the UK midway through shooting her latest picture which is called From Tehran to London and which she never got to finish. The BFI recently hosted a retrospective of her films: .
She joins Jenni to discuss her films and hopes for the future.
Mania's film  is available now on DVD.
A collection of Mania's short stories are available for download at .Ìý
