The Secrets of the Soundtracks

Radio 1's film reviewer Rhianna investigates what goes into making a movie sound as good as it looks and traces the history of the soundtrack.

Tying in the wider 大象传媒 season celebrating Soundtracks, Radio 1 and 1Xtra Film Critic, Rhianna Dhillon, presents The Secrets Of The Soundtrack, revealing what goes on behind the scenes to make a movie sound as good as it looks.

Contributors include Quentin Tarantino, Clint Mansell, Danny Elfman, Twilight composer Carter Burwell, Jennifer Aniston, Bastille and two guys in Bristol who are among the world's leading sound designers for Hollywood Blockbuster movie trailers.

Rhianna discovers how original score (new instrumental music specially composed for a film), source tracks (pre-existing tracks by bands and artists) and sound design (atmospheric noise and sound effects), all combine to make a movie come alive. She hears the inside story from the people who pick and license the music in films; and analyses famous soundtrack moments from John Williams' 'Jaws' to Cliff Martinez and Kavinsky's 'Drive'.
