ANITA'S BLOG

So of course, I realise that this is probably Richard鈥檚 area of expertise, but it seems as if we got smote from on high. It鈥檚 a funny thing, but apparently bathroom ceilings can come down without the slightest bit of provocation. It sounded like an explosion and billowing brick dust bloated its way through the house and curled its way around every flat surface. Fun!

Also a little bit scary, I won鈥檛 lie. Twenty minutes earlier I had been giving our three-year-old son a wash in the very bath that, when the dust settled, was filled with heavy masonry. The sink, half obliterated by the weight of what fell on top of it, is still gawping with its jagged smile days later. Its crooked taps are squinting in a way I just find a bit blas茅 and irritating.

I鈥檓 happy to report that small son believes magic elves are behind all this. I told him they thought it was time he got new bath toys, which is why they visited this unexpected remodelling on us. His rubber dinosaurs have been squashed into placemats and we are still missing a duck. But at least we are all ok. This kind of event really sorts the half-fullers from the half-empties doesn鈥檛 it? Wishing my glass was filled with gin, I have now spent exactly 3 million light-years leafing through catalogues of bathroom fixtures which all look the same to me, wondering if I should issue everyone who comes over a cycle helmet.

The worrying question remains, why on earth did this happen? There has been much mysterious talk of ancient water damage, suggesting Neptune and all his little helpers might have thrown a tizzy above my bathroom before we even moved in. As yet, we just don鈥檛 know - but men with clipboards are on the case. I wonder if the Rev can access ancient vengeful gods as well as his kinder Harvest Festival friend. Must remember to ask him.

Perhaps one of our guests on Saturday live this week might be able to shed some light on the causes of 'Bathroom Apocalypse'. Stevyn Colgan is a former Metropolitan Police intelligence officer. He likes a puzzle, and is a regular contributor to programs like QI and a quiz fanatic to boot.

The marvelous Richard Osman, host of the television game show 鈥楶ointless鈥 is our studio guest. Perhaps he won鈥檛 mind contemplating towel rails with me 鈥 a more pointless exercise I cannot think of.

Living testimony of the saying, 鈥渢here is light at the end of the tunnel鈥 we will be joined by Ian Tibbets, who has regained his sight after a rare operation, and has now been able to see his sons for the very first time.

We鈥檒l have the inheritance tracks of Rula Lenska, John McCarthy is taking us a ride on a Cornish sleeper train, and a lovely 听Sutton Coldfield man will be telling us about the tools he inherited from his grandfather. It all sounds so delightful, I can鈥檛 wait.
