Apple Day at Peatlands Park
We’ll chat to Colin Gates, assistant warden at Peatlands Park, who’ll tell us all about the apples growing on the border of the Orchard County. He’ll be joined by blacksmith artist Jonny Kerr who’ll be giving demonstrations on moulding metal. Sunday’s event is opened to the public and there’ll be field archery, horse rides, traditional crafts, beekeeping and free train rides for all.
A town land near you
Anne Marie travelled to the An Carn Centre just outside Maghera, to meet Omagh man Pol McCana. He runs the Envision Project and talks about field names, town land and town history.
Ghosts in the Glens
It’s not quite Halloween yet but we have some scary stories to tell. Steve Lally will be talking about the ghosts in the Glens of Antrim – all nine of them. Liz Weir will also give a spooky account of the horse men that disappeared under the darkness of a flooded road. The three day festival based in Cushendall will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Glens of Antrim.
Robert Ross Conference
This weekend the life and career of a man from Rostrevor in County Down will be commemorated in a special conference in the village. Major General, Robert Ross was a British Commander during the War of 1812 and is famous for burning down the Whitehouse. Local historian Patricia Strong will tell us about the man and his connection to the village.Â
Walled Garden in Tober Mhuire
Marie McStay visited Crossgar in County Down and checked out the walled garden in Tober Mhuire. This place of peace and tranquillity is now open to the public as Marie found out when getting a tour with her guide. Â
Northern Ireland Ploughing Championship
Burly men and tractors will occupy the McNaughten Estate this weekend, with several women also competing in the 70th Northern Ireland Ploughing Championship. Former World Champion Tom Cochrane will tell us about the event which is being held near Bushmills, and we’ll also speak to William King, the President of the NI Ploughing Association.
