Episode 4 of 4

Colour archive and personal stories recount life in the 60s. How an age of electricity and labour-saving devices transformed home life - especially for women.

Using colour archive and personal stories this people's history concludes with the moving story of how a new age of electricity and labour-saving devices transformed home and family life in sixties Wales. The decade began with Welsh families enduring some of the worst housing in Britain with many homes lacking basic facilities like inside stories, bathrooms - and some even electricity. Women benefitted most of all from the improvements. Many were freed from a life of endless domestic drudgery, childbearing and full-time motherhood.
