With Anne Dudley

Liz is joined by Anne Dudley, a member of 1980s avant-garde synth act Art of Noise and the first composer in association with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra.

Liz is joined by Anne Dudley, best known as a member of 80's avant-garde synth act Art Of Noise. In 2001 she became the first ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra's Composer in Association.
After training as a classical performer, she began working with producer Trevor Horn, and in 1982 worked heavily on ABC's hugely successful album The Lexicon Of Love. She's also produced music for Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Seal, Marc Almond, Rod Stewart and Robbie Williams amongst others.
Art Of Noise formed in 1983, and were at the forefront of the then new sampling technology. Their debut album Who's Afraid of The Art of Noise was released in 1984, and at this time the band presented themselves as faceless, using masks and minimal personal appearances, the idea being to focus interest on the music. The band seperated from Trevor Horn and Paul Morley in 1985 to become a trio, and made 3 further albums before splitting in 1990.
Since the split she has worked as a producer, session musician, and has created the soundtracks to many films, including American History X, Black Book and Pushing Tin, as well as for TV series such as Jeeves and Wooster.
She has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Grammy and a BRIT, for her music production.
Tonight the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra is presenting a "19 eighties: the rhythm of a decade" concert at the Southbank Centre as part of The Rest Is Noise festival. They're joined by founder members of the Art of Noise, Paul Morley and Anne Dudley whose Into Battle with the Art of Noise will be performed in a non-electronic orchestral suite

Liz also gives listeners the chance to show-off their musical knowledge with themed tune suggestions, and chats to a listener about their favourite album in All Killer No Filler, which this week comes from fellow synthpop pioneer Thomas Dolby.
