School in Learmount Forest
There’s a saying ‘it’s good to get out for some fresh air’, and that’s exactly what St Mary’s Primary 2 group are doing, taking the classroom outside and into the forest. The school from the village of Park near Claudy have the backing of principal Mary Redmond and Karen Kirkegard from Groundwork NI. Allotments at Springhill House
You might be one of the many people hunting for an allotment space at Springhill House in Moneymore; apparently they’re like hens teeth. Sophie Atkinson looks after the allotments where there’s beetroot, peas, beans, broccoli, lettuce, pumpkins and much more. Anne Marie met Sophie a few months after the success of their big Harvest Fair in October.
Following the High Cross
Last weekend we began following the journey of an 1100 year old 2 tonne High Cross that was about to be removed from Down Cathedral. It’s now been dismantled and scanned in hope of finding out what designs would’ve originally featured on the surface of the cross. Marie McStay will be following the 18 month project and she was at the cathedral for the removal.
Gazing at Oxford Island
This weekend it’s all about Moongazing, Plaentgazing and Stargazing at Oxford Island, where you can also see the sky above five counties. The event has been organised by the Irish Astronomical Association Society of which Terry Moseley is a member. Terry will be joined by Laura Glenn, the Education Officer at Lough Neagh Discovery Centre. If that’s not enough the moon, the stars and Jupiter is a free event happening at Silent Valley in Kilkeel on Sunday at the Rangers Office from half past six.
