#mandela6music - a tribute to Nelson Mandela

Tom Robinson hosts a musical tribute to Nelson Mandela curated by 6 Music listeners.

Tom Robinson hosts a musical tribute to Nelson Mandela, following the news that he passed away on Thursday 5th December 2013, aged 95.
Mandela's integral role in bringing about the end of apartheid has inspired musicians all over the globe, with artists including Beyonce taking to social media to pay tribute as soon as news of his death broke. U2's frontman Bono also penned an article for Time magazine in honour of what he called a "forceful presence" in his life.
Simple Minds, Joe Strummer, Santana and Tracy Chapman are among those who have written tracks inspired by South Africa's first black president and Nobel Peace Prize winner - with U2 most recently writing 'Ordinary Life' for the forthcoming Idris Elba-fronted biopic 'Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom'.
Tom hosts a two-hour playlist featuring many of those tracks and also reflecting on Mandela's life that has influenced so many musicians.
