Janice reviews The Wolf of Wall Street and The Culture Studio gets exclusive backstage access to Scottish Ballet as it prepares to take Hansel and Gretel on tour.
The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort is his controversial autobiography already suffering attack from critics ahead of its screen adaptation (directed by Martin Scorsese) which comes to cinemas later this month. We find out what Literary Editor at the Herald, Rosemary Goring and freelance arts critic, Andrea Mullaney thought of the book as they join Janice to give their review. Plus, we look at film adaptations generally, what are the key elements to a good one? Why are some literary classics adapted time and time again and do some authors write with the screenplay already in mind? Also today, for the first time in over a decade, one of Scotland's most successful composers James Macmillan takes to the podium in his native country for a public concert to mark the beginning of the Commonwealth 2014 celebrations - Janice finds out more. Queen of the dancefloor Sophie Ellis Bextor drops by for a 'post Strictly' chat and tells Janice about her new album Wanderlust which is set for big things. We've been focussing on pantomime since before Christmas and talking to performers from the stage, but now we delve deeper and take a peek behind the scenes. Our reporter Bronwen Livingstone gains exclusive back stage access to Scottish Ballet as they prepare to take Hansel and Gretel on tour. And we discover how a large scale musical comes together as we hear from two Scots based in London's West End; Head of Wardrobe on Mamma Mia Ruth McCorkindale and Production Manager Stewart Crosby.
