The late Pete Seeger chats to John Cavanagh about the long history behind his classic protest song, Where Have all the Flowers Gone. Pete first wrote the song in 1955 and then forgot about it. But you can't keep a classic song down and, after becoming a hit in the US for The Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul and Mary, it made its way to Germany where Marlene Dietrich gave it iconic status, and to the UK where folk singer Tommy Sand's version became an anthem for peace in Northern Ireland.
