Donald Macleod introduces the first two works inspired by Janacek's love for Kamila Stosslova. His passion for this married woman transformed the last decade of his life.

Jan谩cek first encountered Kamila St枚sslov谩 in 1917. His passion for this married woman, less than half his age, transformed the last decade of his life and spurred him on to greater heights of creativity. Donald Macleod introduces two works whose heroines were inspired by Kamila - a song-cycle in which a young farmer deserts his family to live with a beautiful gypsy girl, and an opera whose gentle heroine is unable to resist the temptation of an illicit affair with tragic consequences.
