Sean Rafferty introduces the second concert in this week's series was recorded at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. Lang Lang begins with Mozart's Piano Sonata in G major K 283, which was written while the composer was still a teenager. He concludes with a performance of Chopin's Four Ballades. Chopin is said to have invented the the "Ballade". He told Schumann that the Ballade form was inspired by the poetry of the nationalist poet, Mickiewicz, who was in exile and a member of Chopin's circle in Paris.
