Full synopsis
Dot’s surprised to learn Carol’s opted for a single mastectomy and thinks Carol’s got years left of life, recalling that if she’d given up when fighting her own cancer she wouldn’t have met Jim. Carol comes home to find Liam arguing with a bailiff looking for Bianca. Later, Bianca returns from work and is met by a grim faced Carol, who explains Liam’s told her everything – they need £350 by tomorrow. Upset, Bianca tries to apologise.
Carol heads to the café to ask Ian for her job back but falters when he puts her to work straight away; she’s rushed off her feet serving while Tina loiters, chatting with customers. After kicking out a rowdy gang of school kids for throwing food, Carol’s exhausted and complains to Tina that she’s been slaving on her own all day for a measly wage. Sympathetic, Tina apologises for being slow and confides that she’s selling weed on the side - does Carol want in?
When Aleks teases Roxy about the way she eats, Roxy wonders how different she is from Latvian girls and questions why Aleks never talks about home. On Bridge Street, Alfie watches as a loved up Roxy gives Aleks keys to No 27 and pleads with Tamwar to speak to her on his behalf. Tamwar attempts to gauge Shabnam’s advice, but she’s too hungry from fasting during Ramadan to listen.
At home, Roxy researches Latvia on the internet. Later, Tamwar attempts to talk to Roxy about Aleks, but bottles it. Alfie calls round and reveals Aleks has a wife in Latvia, explaining he and Tamwar found emails and photographs on Aleks’ laptop. Roxy won’t believe it and orders Alfie to leave. Phil backs her up. Later, Aleks is bemused to find Roxy waiting with a Latvian spread and a cake to celebrate his name day; he points out it’s not his name day and the bread Roxy’s bought is Polish. Fed up, Roxy despairs there’s so much about Aleks she doesn’t know.
Aleks gives her free reign to question him; Roxy wonders about girlfriends and Aleks claims he never met the right person to settle down with – until now. Roxy smiles, but can’t hide her worry. Later, at the Masoods’, Roxy confronts Tamwar and demands to see the photos. Shabnam protests that they’re preparing for Iftar but, on learning of the potential gossip, she and Roxy march Tamwar to the market office where Tamwar shows Roxy Aleks’ laptop.
Clad in Linda’s dressing gown, Mick brings Linda breakfast in bed and suggestively teases she’d better unwrap her birthday present. Johnny gets another text message from Gianluca. Dean brings round a birthday card for Linda, uncomfortable to learn she and Mick are ‘indisposed’. Linda’s upset when Elaine cancels her birthday shopping trip; Mick bribes a reluctant Nancy to go instead.
Dean intercepts them as they head for the tube with a Blades voucher for Linda, suggesting she come in for a pampering session. Nancy eagerly agrees. In the Vic, Mick notices Johnny’s hickey, and encourages him to meet Gianluca again. At Blades, Dean gives Linda a head massage as he washes her hair. Later, Mick presents Linda with a special VIP table in the Vic for dinner, but apologises that her birthday surprise has been delayed until the weekend. Mick thanks Dean for pampering Linda and insists he join them for dinner. Dean takes a seat next to Linda, pleased.
After staying the night, Nikki reassures Terry she has a flat share interview. Terry worries about her living with strangers. Watching Nikki meeting her potential male flatmates, Donna teases that Terry’s been mugged off; Terry jokes high maintenance women aren’t his thing. Later, Nikki’s downcast that the room went to someone else, and worries she’s no longer cool.
Terry teases Nikki about her cheesy music taste and agrees she can stay another night. While Nikki’s in the toilet, Donna makes a derisive comment about Nikki and Terry defends her. Overhearing, Nikki’s touched and suggests she and Terry try again, to his surprise.
Tina barges into the Butchers’ early in the morning, desperate to talk to Carol. Carol repeats that she won’t be involved in Tina’s drug dealing; Tina claims she’s stopped selling weed and has returned Aunt Babe’s stash. Carol counts out pennies and Bianca and Whitney contribute their earnings, but they’re unable to raise £350 for the bailiffs.
Carol refuses to let them in and is embarrassed when she gets a nosebleed. Bianca protests that Carol has cancer and pleads with the bailiff to leave them alone. The bailiff gives them until the end of the day to raise the cash. Sonia berates Bianca for taking out loans again and suspects Carol’s having a single mastectomy so she can recover quicker and help Bianca.
The kids are keen to help out but Carol refuses to pawn their belongings. Sonia tells Carol she’s setting up a local Fat Blasters group, and broaches the subject of Carol’s operation. Carol refuses to discuss a double mastectomy, although Sonia protests it’s the safer option. Carol brings Mo her jewellery to pawn, including her ‘Carol’ necklace and engagement ring. Sympathetic, Kat insists Mo give Carol a cash advance. Later, in the café, Sonia apologises for pressuring Carol about her operation. Carol spots Tina slipping something to a customer.
When confronted, Tina admits she’s still selling weed. Carol knows Tina’s afraid she’ll report her to the police and is disgusted Tina’s taking the easy way out while her family are struggling for money. In the Vic, Cora and Mo agree to sign up to Fat Blasters. At home, Carol dials 999 but can’t bring herself to report Tina. Left with no choice, Carol gives Mo Morgan’s games console, Tiffany’s necklace and Liam’s headphones to pawn, but still falls short of the loan repayment.
The bailiffs return, and Carol’s
stunned when they suggest adding the remaining money to next month’s repayment.
A shamefaced Bianca admits she owes £3,000 - she couldn’t tell Carol while she
was so sick. Carol makes a decision, promises to replace the kids’ belongings
and heads out, insisting everything will be fine. Carol pays a surprised Tina a
visit, explaining she hasn’t reported Tina for selling weed – she wants in on
the deal.
