Domestic Violence & Work
In the UK, in any one year, more than 20 per cent of employed women take time off work because of domestic abuse. The violence may happen behind closed doors, but it has far reaching consequences. In February, hairdresser Hollie Gazzard was murdered by her abusive partner whilst working at a salon - a tragic case of domestic violence entering the workplace, but for many the abuse is not always so evident. In a survey released by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) 70 per cent of their respondents said they felt unable to raise their problems at work. So what’s the solution to the problem? Jenni discusses the issues with Sarah Veale, Head of Equality and Employment Rights at the TUC, and Lindsay Harris, Policy and Training advisor at ONUS.

China’s Dramatic Improvement In Infant Mortality
Latest figures show thatÌýinfant mortality in China has gone from 61 deaths per 1000 in 1991, to 12 per 1000 today - exceptional progress, which has been noted by both The World Bank and the World Health Organisation. The figures reflect well in comparison to other fast developing countries like India, but China still lags behind most West European countries, where infant mortality in the under five’s is around four in every 1000.ÌýThe difference has been attributed to better care at birth, plus increased access to immunisation. Tania Branigan is the China correspondent for the Guardian and joins us from Beijing.
