Friday Night is Music Night with Ken Bruce.

To mark the launch of the 大象传媒 Music project - Ten Pieces - Ken turns classical popmaster to present all Ten Pieces performed by the 大象传媒 Concert Orchestra conducted by David Charles Abell.

There was a special treat this week for primary school children around the country as we took them out of the classroom and along to their local cinema to view a new 大象传媒 film about Ten Pieces of classical music. The aim of the project is to inspire creativity through music, art and dance and dispel the rumour that classical music is "just for old people".

For tonight's Friday Night is Music Night we have invited a family audience to hear all Ten Pieces - each one introduced by a very special guest.

John Adams: Short Ride in a Fast Machine
Beethoven: Symphony No. 5 (1st movement)
Britten: 'Storm' Interlude from 'Peter Grimes'
Grieg: In the Hall of the Mountain King from 'Peer Gynt'
Handel: Zadok the Priest
Holst: Mars from 'The Planets'
Anna Meredith: Connect It
Mozart: Horn Concerto No. 4 (3rd movement)
Mussorgsky: A Night on the Bare Mountain
Stravinsky: The Firebird - suite (1911) (Finale)

During this evening's concert interval we hear from composer Anna Meredith about the body percussion piece Connect It which she has written especially for the Ten Pieces project.

Friday Night is Music Night marks the culmination of a week of programming on Radio 2 and Radio 3 reflecting the 10 pieces project including a beginner's guide to each piece on Ken Bruce's Radio 2 show, a more in-depth look at the pieces on Radio 3's Essential Classics and Afternoon on 3 and a Radio 3 collaboration with C大象传媒's Blue Peter and the 大象传媒 Philharmonic Orchestra live from the 大象传媒's Salford studios.
