Prayer for the Day Script - Glenn Jordan

25 November

Good Morning.

The chances are that as you listen to this broadcast I鈥檒l be walking on the beach near my home with my dog Tess in close attendance.

I love the solitariness of these early mornings. And I love the darkness. Sometimes, when the moon is full and the sky is clear the sand shines and sparkles and the river of stars that makes up the Milky Way is within touching distance. Sometimes I can see the landing lights of overhead planes reflected there and I feel I could reach out with both hands and cup that red eye flight making its way to Belfast鈥檚. It strikes me that this is like the view God might have as he looks down. Me and my dog ambling on the dark beach. And that group of tired, harassed travellers packing away their electronic devices and getting ready for a day鈥檚 work, or to meet weary relatives in the arrivals area.

And it reminds me this morning that, whatever your journey this day. A journey of miles, or a journey of the mind and imagination. Maybe a journey into something new and challenging. Whatever your journey, there are fellow travellers out there in the dark. You are not alone. You might even dare to believe that there is a God out there, watching over you, capable of gathering you in his hands.

Lord God, you have promised to be our faithful companion from our setting out until our return. Whether our journey today is of many miles or just a walk on a beach guide us and preserve us till journey鈥檚 end.
