Afasic

Afasic

Afasic is a relatively small UK wide charity that helps children and young people affected by speech, language and communication disabilities; works for their inclusion in society and supports their parents and families.Ìý

Afasic was established in 1968 as a parent led organisation to provide support, information and help to parents and carers and to raise awareness of this often hidden disability.Ìý

Our ultimate aim is that these children and young people will get the support they need to be able to reach their true potential, take an active role in their local community and contribute to society, rather than face isolation from it.Ìý

Supporting Parents

Supporting Parents

The Afasic parent support service provides support for thousands of parents and carers of children with communication disabilities and gives vital help at key points in a child’s development, which can make a real and lasting difference to their lives.

It costs just £35 to keep the Afasic parent helpline open for an hour.ÌýÌý

Youth Projects

Youth Projects

Afasic runs clubs for young people who have on-going communication disabilities that enable them to have fun, develop friendships and reduce their social isolation. The clubs allow the young people to take part in a range of activities they would otherwise struggle to access, whilst also developing their communication and social skills.

Just £50 enables a young person to attend an Afasic youth club for a month.Ìý

Kelly

Kelly

When Kelly was four she had very few words and when people spoke to her all she could hear was ‘sound’. But with Afasic’s help Kelly got a place at a special school for children with speech and language disabilities.Ìý Here she received the support and therapy she needed and today Kelly is a happy young woman who has a job and copes very well with life.
