Sarah Champion, the Labour MP for Rotherham introduced a bill on December 16th 2014 calling for big companies to reveal their gender pay gap. A majority of 258 MP’s backed the proposed legislation that would make it compulsory for companies with more than 250 staff to be transparent about the difference between male and female pay.Ìý 7 male conservative MP’s voted against including the MP for Windsor, Adam Afriyie. Forgotten Women of History – Rachel Parsons
Rachel Parsons was one of the most remarkable and trailblazing women of her era, but she has disappeared from the pages of history. A campaigner for women’s rights, politician and engineering pioneer she co-founded the Women’s Engineering Society with her mother and became its first President. Jane Garvey talks to historian Henrietta HealdÌý about why we know so little about a woman who achieved so much.
