Live from London's Barbican Hall, rising German conductor David Afkham conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto (with soloist Nicholas Angelich) and Brahms's Second Symphony.

Born in 1983 in Freiburg, rising German conductor David Afkham was mentored in his early career by Bernard Haitink, and won the 2008 Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, as a result of which he became Assistant Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra for two years. He has since worked with many leading orchestras in Europe and the USA, conducted Verdi's La traviata at the Glyndebourne Festival last summer, and has recently been appointed Principal Conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra.
