Gordon, who started out as a visual artist, was the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist in seminal alternative rock band Sonic Youth, which she formed with Thurston Moore in 1981. She has also collaborated with the likes of Yoko Ono and Courtney Love.

Kim's memoir Girl In A Band is published on the 24th of February via Faber & Faber. With searing honesty she tells the story of her family, her work in the visual arts, her move to New York City, the men in her life, her marriage, and her music.

This interview launches Kim's book tour, and is a must listen for any Sonic Youth fan, or anyone with a passion for independent music in general.
