Crucial Vinyl: Metal Box - Public Image Ltd

Don's choices cross time, space and genre, plus he selects Metal Box by Public Image Ltd as his Crucial Vinyl.

Don's Crucial Vinyl selection this week is Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.

Don says,

"It seemed like an impossible task for John to reinvent himself after the demise of the Sex Pistols, but the release of Public Image Ltd's debut album 'First Edition' in 1978 did just that. Johnny Rotten was now John Lydon, complete with a new look and a new band.

In 1979 PiL's second album 'Metal Box' showed that John also had a new musical direction, with lessons learned from Jamaican dub and the likes of Germany's Can. With Jah Wobble's earth shattering bass lines, Keith Levene's innovative guitar sounds and John's distinctive vocal style, this record stands as a post-punk landmark wrapped (literally) in a 'Metal Box'".
