Its fifty years this month since the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama,聽 a key event in the struggle for civil rights in the United States.聽聽 The film Selma is currently introducing a new generation to that movement and to its key figure Martin Luther King. Roy Jenkins asks whether or not his way of non-violent resistance has been vindicated, and what lessons still need to be learned both in the States and much nearer home.聽聽
