English Concert: Purcell Songs
Duets and songs by Henry Purcell performed by Rosemary Joshua and Sarah Connolly, plus instrumental music by John Blow and Matthew Locke. Harry Bicket directs the English Concert.
'One charming night/Gives more delight/Than a hundred lucky days': Spenser's words set by Henry Purcell are an apt description of this concert of duets and solo songs by England's greatest composer, interspersed with instrumental music by his contemporaries, John Blow and Matthew Locke.
Soprano Rosemary Joshua and mezzo Sarah Connolly, both celebrated for their performances of baroque music, are joined by Harry Bicket, who directs renowned period instrument group The English Concert.
