Dundee Utd v Celtic

The Scottish League Cup Final

Live from Hampden Park, Glasgow (kick-off 3pm)

The 69th Scottish League cup final sees Dundee Utd take on Celtic for the first silverware of the season. The event is back at the National Stadium which was out of action last season for the Commonwealth Games. The Tangerines last League Cup win was back in season 1980/81, when they defeated city rivals Dundee 3-0 to retain the trophy having beaten Aberdeen the previous season. Their last appearance in the final was in 2008, when they lost to Rangers on penalties after the match ended 2-2 in extra time. The United manager, Jackie McNamara, is a former Celtic captain who played in the green and white hoops between 1995 and 2005, during which time he lifted the League Cup three times, including the 1997 win over today's opponents. On the way to this season's final, Dundee Utd negotiated their way past Dundee, Hibernian in a dramatic last eight penalty shoot-out, and holders Aberdeen in the semi-final.

Ronny Deila is in his first season as Celtic manager, having arrived from Stromsgodset in Norway. The 39-year-old's attacking philosophy delivered success in his homeland with a Norwegian Cup win in 2010 followed by the Premier League title three years later. He will be hoping to make the Scottish League Cup his first trophy win in Scotland. The Parkhead club last lifted this trophy back in 2009, when they defeated old foes Rangers 2-0 thanks to goals from Darren O'Dea and Aiden McGeady. However, their last appearance in the final was two years ago when they lost 1-0 to Kilmarnock, despite being strong favourites. In this season's competition, Celtic have enjoyed victories over Hearts, Partick Thistle and Rangers, without conceding a goal. Dundee Utd have already tasted victory over Celtic this season - a 2-1 Premiership win in December. However, their goals that day were scored by Nadir Ciftci, who is suspended for today's final, and Stuart Armstrong, who along with teammate Gary Mackay-Steven, moved from Tannadice to Celtic Park in the January transfer window.
