Ensemble MidtVest
(recorded 8 March 2015)
Ensemble MidtVest is a versatile group established in 2002 to perform chamber music across the range of scorings for combinations of winds, strings and keyboard. The ensemble is based in the town of Herning, where it runs its own series and even has its own concert hall. On this visit to London they performed for the London Chamber Music Society in their regular series at King's Place.
The music included Nielsen's sunny and popular wind quintet; Beethoven's brilliant early trio for clarinet, cello and piano; a wind trio by German composer Julius R枚ntgen (better known as a founder-conductor of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra); and Smetana's powerful Piano Trio, whose powerful ending is inspired by the death of the composer's first child.
