In the SCBU, Linda鈥檚 worried when Nancy and Lee report Mick left suddenly holding a letter. Dean arrives back at Patrick鈥檚 with the teddy bear and Shirley deduces he鈥檚 been to the hospital. Dean declares he won鈥檛 let Linda keep him from his baby, and produces paperwork to set up a children鈥檚 bank account to save for the future. Dean waits on tenterhooks while Shirley fetches test paperwork from when he was a child; his blood type is AB.
Mick鈥檚 jubilant while Dean covers his devastation. Mick declares he doesn鈥檛 need to have anything to do with any of them ever again and exits. Struggling, Dean claims he didn鈥檛 want to be lumbered with a kid and heads out for fish and chips. In the chip shop, Dean can鈥檛 bear it when Billy chats about Linda鈥檚 baby and bolts. The jury finds Dot not guilty of murder, to cheers from her supporters, but their relief鈥檚 short lived when Dot鈥檚 found guilty of manslaughter. While the court鈥檚 adjourned before sentencing, Charlie questions Ritchie and Dot鈥檚 lawyer of the possibility of a suspended sentence given Dot鈥檚 age. Judge Richmond takes into consideration Nick鈥檚 treatment of Dot, but declares she still could have sought help for Nick, and sentences Dot to 14 months imprisonment. Later, in prison, Fatboy and Charlie beg Dot to appeal but Dot refuses and resigns to wait out her sentence - anything less wouldn鈥檛 be right.

Fatima ushers her out and demands to know what鈥檚 wrong. Asim follows and apologises for upsetting Shabnam but she blurts that she鈥檚 not ready. Fatima turfs Masood and Tamwar out of the house and confronts Shabnam alone, insisting she stop punishing herself for the past; seven years is a long time. Shabnam pales and tries to ignore Fatima as she presses that Shabnam must think about that day - any mother would. Shabnam finally asks if her daughter鈥檚 okay. Fatima explains she doesn鈥檛 keep in touch but made sure she was settled before leaving her adoptive parents to bring her up. Fatima wishes Shabnam had confided in her and urges her to tell Masood the truth. Alarmed, Shabnam forbids Fatima from saying anything. Later, she seeks solace in the allotments where she encounters Dean鈥
