Each week, songs are played connected to members of 'The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame'. We hear 'Jailhouse Rock' by Elvis Presley to celebrate the induction of drummer D. J. Fontana in the 'sideman category' and 'Sherry' by The 4 Seasons. In 'A Matter Of Life And Death', we celebrate the birthday on this date in 1949 of Keith Carradine with his American hit 'I'm Easy' from the movie 'Nashville'. Paul pays tribute to songwriter Wayne Carson, who has recently died, by playing his song 'The Letter' recorded by The Box Tops. 'It's Not The Same Old Song' highlights 'Wild One' by Bobby Rydell and a different song with the same title by Martha & The Vandellas.
In the feature called 'Beyond The Sea', Paul plays tracks from the biggest selling albums by UK artists in America. Tonight, we hear songs from LPs by Dusty Springfield and Squeeze. 'The Other Number Ones' are records that reached the top of the American chart in 'Cash Box' magazine, but not in the 'Billboard' Hot 100. This week's examples are by Clarence Carter and Elton John.
Our R&B number ones are from 1980 and now by Larry Graham and Tyrese. We hear Country number ones from 1964 and this week by Roger Miller and Luke Bryan. Our featured past and present Rock number ones are by The White Stripes and Walk The Moon. The best-selling digital song of the week is 'Cheerleader' by OMI.
