Mary Anne sits in for Lauren Laverne, and chats to composer and musician, Peter Gordon, and film director, Luke Carlisle.
This year, Peter Gordon will be directing the first ever European performances of one of Arthur Russell's most important concert piece, Instrumentals; a piece that originally premi猫red in California in 1975 and has only been played six times to date.
Created over 20 years after Arthur's passing, Peter's new reading of the composition will be performed by himself and other original 'Instrumentals' ensemble musicians, Rhys Chatham, Peter Zummo, Ernie Brooks and Bill Ruyle, plus Max Gordon, Gerry O'Beirne and Gavin Russom of LCD Soundsystem.
Film director Luke Carlisle also joins Mary Anne, to talk about his new short film, He Works The Long Nights. The seven minute piece documents the repetitive, unglamorous life of a London drug dealer, and was co-written by one of Mary Anne's favourite grime MCs, Trim.
