Special Olympics Great Britain provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for people in this country with learning disabilities.听 Almost 1.2 million people in the UK (2% of the population) have a learning disability.听 Special Olympics GB serves over 8,000 registered athletes annually through 150 volunteer-led local clubs and 19 regions.

Georgina (pictured) is 25 years old and lives in St Albans. She loves sport.听 She has autism and for much of her life, felt bullied, excluded and isolated.听 Then she found Special Olympics and that has all changed.听 Through her local Special Olympics club, Georgina can swim and go riding every week and she is a different, more confident person.

Georgina

Georgina has excelled so much that she is currently in Los Angeles (July/Aug 2015) competing in Equestrian events at the Special Olympics World Games alongside 7,000 athletes from across the globe.听 Over the next three years, Special Olympics is targeting 25,000 new athletes with learning disabilities and aiming to train 5,000 new volunteers.听 The sporting journey continues.
