Katie Puckrik sits in for Mary Anne Hobbs and meets director Asif Kapadia, who talks about his new documentary Amy, which charts the life of the talented and troubled singer.

Acclaimed director Asif Kapadia joins Katie this morning to talk about his challenging new documentary 'Amy' which charts the life of the talented and troubled singer.

Join us as Asif discusses why he chose Amy, and how he tackled the often perilous task of making a successful music documentary

The process of creating 'Amy' took three years. Kapadia assembled a hundred interviews and incorporated twenty months of editing, driven by a passion to answer the questions that Amy's life raised. Using techniques similar to those used in his ground breaking documentary 'Senna', 'Amy' mixes archive footage, new interviews and home recordings to build a collage of Amy's life, which is warm, humorous, challenging, and tragic.

Graduating from the Royal College of Art where he first gained recognition for his short 'The Sheep Thief', Kapadia's first feature film 'The Warrior' won two Baftas including Outstanding British Film of the year and his first documentary 'Senna' received great critical acclaim, won the World Cinema Audience Award at the Sundance film festival and garnered 3 more Baftas including another Outstanding British Film award.
