Each week, songs are played connected to members of 'The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame'. We hear 'I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)' by Aretha Franklin and to celebrate the induction of DJ Alan Freed, 'Maybellene' by Chuck Berry. In 'A Matter Of Life And Death', we celebrate the birthday on this date in 1963 of Tori Amos with her song 'Silent All These Years'. 'It's Not The Same Old Song' highlights 'The Wanderer' by Dion and a different song with the same title by U2 featuring Johnny Cash.
In the feature called 'Beyond The Sea', Paul plays tracks from the biggest selling albums by UK artists in America. Tonight, we hear songs from LPs by Marianne Faithfull and Squeeze. 'The Other Number Ones' are records that reached the top of the American chart in 'Cash Box' magazine, but not in the 'Billboard' Hot 100. This week's examples are by The Toys and Madonna.
Our R&B number ones are from 1953 and now by The Orioles and Janet Jackson. We hear Country number ones from 2012 and this week by Little Big Town and Sam Hunt. Our featured past and present Rock number ones are by Cage The Elephant and Fall Out Boy. The number one album is the TV soundtrack album 'Descendants' and the best-selling digital song of the week is 'Drag Me Down' by One Direction.
