Brymbo fossil forest

Adam Walton visits Brymbo near Wrexham, where a rare, three hundred million year old, fossil forest was uncovered in 2003. Recently, the site has been given special scientific interest status by Natural Resources Wales.聽

The fossil forest was uncovered on the site of the former Brymbo Steelworks, during redevelopment works, and has yielded many major finds of giant, long extinct plants and trees.
Brymbo Heritage Group working with the site owners and NRW, are now making plans to place a permanent cover on the site, to enable further excavation work to take place.

By 2018 it's hoped that the former steelworks buildings next to the fossil forest will be renovated and turned into a visitor centre and cafe, and tell the story of the fossil forest and the steelworks.
