Episode 1
Highlights from the semi-finals of the 2015 Leeds International Piano Competition, with performances from the Great Hall at the University of Leeds.
Sarah Walker introduces highlights from the semi-finals stage of the Leeds International Piano Competition, from the Great Hall at the University of Leeds.
Founded in 1961 and still led by Dame Fanny Waterman, the competition gives a platform to some of the most exciting emerging pianists. The stakes are high, competition fierce; past winners include Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia and Dmitri Alexeev. This year more than three hundred pianists from all over the world entered. Having taken part in two preceding rounds, now, at the semi-finals stage, just twelve outstanding pianists remain. Over the week, there's an opportunity to hear from all twelve - today we hear concert highlights from the first three.
