With Lavinia Greenlaw

Mary Anne Hobbs is joined by poets and novelist Lavinia Greenlaw, who talks about her book The Importance of Music to Girls and her sound project Audio Obscura.

Mary Anne is joined by one of her favourite writers, Lavinia Greenlaw, who talks about her book, The Importance of Music to Girls, and her sound work project, Audio Obscura.

Lavinia's memoir, The Importance of Music to Girls, was published in 2007. It charts the soundtrack, hairstyles and musings of an eight year old Lavinia, all the way through to her becoming an adult and then a mother (or is that the other way around?)

Her project, Audio Obscura, is part sound-art, part poetry, part radio play. It was originally created for Manchester Piccadilly and London St Pancras stations, and examines the way people digest and deal with the thoughts and sounds taking place around them.

Expect to hear glam rock, punk and disco on this show! And a whole host of random things Mary Anne and her team have overheard on 6Music this week, of course.
