Simon welcomes US author Garth Risk Hallberg to the Radio 2 Book Club to discuss City on Fire. Plus a new confession and listeners' oldies.

The UK's biggest book club welcomes American author Garth Risk Hallberg to Radio 2, to discuss his epic novel, City On Fire.

Set in New York in 1977, it's new year's eve and as midnight approaches, a blizzard sets in. Amidst the fireworks, another sound rings out across Central Park. Gunshots. Two of them. A rich cast of New Yorkers are thrown together by the night's events. From the reluctant heirs to the famous fortune, to a couple of Long Island kids drawn to the nascent downtown punk scene.

From the newly arrived and enchanted, to those so sick of the city they want to burn it to the ground. These lives are connected to one another - and to the life that still clings to that body in the park.

Garth will join Simon Mayo and the team from New York to tell us more about his novel, and we'll also hear from our listener reviewers.
