As David Cameron prepares to try and persuade other EU leaders to back his reform plans at a summit on Thursday a committee of MPs has released a reporting arguing the Prime Minister will not be able to deliver fundamental reform without changing its treaties. The final preparations are being made in Kazakhstan for the launch of the Soyuz spacecraft which will carry the British astronaut Major Tim Peake to the International Space Station. Nicholas Patrick is a former astronaut who made two missions to space.

An estimated 15 million people volunteer across the UK regularly volunteer to help keep sports clubs, libraries, hospitals and countless other facilities open to the public. However, their efforts are often unmeasured, unrecognised and sometimes used, it is argued, as a substitute for services and employment once provided by the state. Andy Haldane is the chief economist at the Bank of England and co-founder of volunteering charity Pro Bono Economics.
