A short reflection and prayer with Jonathan Rea.

Prayer for the Day 14 December 2015 Jonathan Rea
Good morning.
Good morning. 43 Forty three years ago today Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt were on their way home from the moon. They left behind a small plaque:
It says 鈥淗ere man completed his first explorations of the Moon, December 1972. May the spirit of peace in which we came be reflected in the lives of all mankind鈥.听
Tragically, this hope has been much harder to achieve than further space missions.
At Christmas, we talk of a baby who came from another world to bring peace on earth. For some, peace on earth just means being nice to a relative we don鈥檛 like very much on Christmas Day. For others it鈥檚 about political deals or ceasefires. But this thing we call peace is awfully fragile.
The peace that Christ brings is different. What Jesus offers is permanent reconciliation between humans and our Maker. A peace with God - that enables us to face life and death with confidence and security.
CS Lewis observes 鈥淚f I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.鈥
Maybe that鈥檚 the sort of thinking that makes people want to go to the moon.
But what if that world of peace and satisfaction isn鈥檛 reachable in a space shuttle?
What if it is only to be found in a completely different dimension 鈥 say 鈥 for example in a newborn baby lying in a manger 鈥 who lives on in the hearts of his followers today?
Lord, we thank you for the complexity of the universe and for the vivid way it displays your glory. May the spirit of peace in which Jesus came be reflected in the lives of all humanity.
Amen.
